Lamine Yamal will play on the right of Spain’s attack and at 16 years and 338 days becomes the youngest player in European Championship finals history.
Can Yamal also become the youngest goalscorer at the Euros? That record is currently held by Switzerland’s Johan Vonlatnthen, who was 18 years and 141 days old when he scored against France at Euro 2004. Vonlanthen, who retired in 2018, is the same age as Croatia icon Luka Modric by the way.
Spain line up as expected, apart from one change at the back. They are without Aymeric Laporte, who missed training on Thursday with a muscular issue. Nacho replaces him, partnering Robin le Normand in the centre of defence.
Spain starting XI: Unai Simon, Carvajal, Le Normand, Nacho, Cucurella, Pedri, Rodrigo, Fabian, Yamal, Morata, Williams
Croatia’s midfield is at the other end of the experience range to Yamal – Mateo Kovacic, Marcelo Brozovic and Luka Modric have a combined age of 99.
Ivan Perisic is still not at 100% after a serious knee injury and starts on the bench, while Ante Budimir gets the nod over Bruno Petkovic up front.
Croatia starting XI: Livakovic, Stanisic, Pongracic, Gvardiol, Sutalo, Majer, Kovacic, Kramaric, Modric, Brozovic, Budimir.
