His 21st birthday card revealed a shocking secret his parents had been keeping
A man discovered his family had been pranking him for the last three years on his 21st birthday. Sarah Austin shared a video of her son Charlie’s reaction to the prank on TikTok, with her clip quickly going viral at his expense.
Her video began with Charlie opening a huge birthday card from his parents and being prompted to “read it out” loud. “Happy 21st birthday, Charlie,” he said, unaware of the bombshell that was about to drop.
“Yay – you no longer have a black box.” Charlie leapt up in excitement with his new sense of liberty. However, the real punchline was yet to come. As he continued reading, realisation hit, and his expression changed: “I’ve had no black box for three years? Are you serious?” Laughter broke out among the guests, prompting him to let out several expletives, reports Manchester Evening News.

Charlie finished reading the card, visibly shocked: “Are you taking the p***? You’re telling me it took six and a half hours to get to Cornwall?” His father jokingly responded: “It slowed you down though, didn’t it?”
Charlie proceeded to ask his other guests if they were in on the gag, to which they all confirmed they had been. “We knew for years,” one friend smirked. “When you had to slow down the other day, I was crying laughing!”
The video racked up 1.7million views, and TikTok users flocked to the comments section to applaud Charlie’s parents. “Fantastic parenting!” one person hailed. “3 years safe driving in the bag.”
Another concurred: “Three years of driving carefully and avoiding accidents. Three years of experience on the roads. Top parents right there.” And a third joined in praise, adding: “This is how to parent! Learning how to actually drive safely is invaluable.”
