Six fire engines and an aerial appliance attended the scene
Firefighters tackled a blaze for hours after flames ripped through a house. Merseyside Fire and Rescue was called to Alfred Road in Birkenhead at around 9.20pm today, Monday, September 30. Six fire engines were sent to the scene and crews arrived at just before 9.30pm.
When firefighters arrived, they found a semi-detached building alight. Smoke could be seen billowing from the top floor of the building. Locals in the area believe the building to be derelict. The incident is ongoing.
A statement from Mersey Fire and Rescue said: “Crews were alerted at 21.23 and on scene at 21.27. Six fire engines and an aerial appliance are on scene. On arrival crews found a semi-detached property with a fire on the first floor.

“Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently fighting the fire in one house using two hose reel jets, while another two firefighters are checking the adjacent property for any fire spread.
