SERAP issues Tinubu 48 hours to reverse ban on 25 media outfits

By Ogaga Ariemu

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu over the ban of 25 media outfits from Aso Rock.

Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP Deputy Director, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

SERAP was reacting to the withdrawal of 25 journalists’ accreditation from covering the activities of the President.

According to the group, the ban include those from the Vanguard, Galaxy TV, Ben TV, MITV, ITV Abuja, PromptNews, ONTV, and Liberty.

SERAP urged Tinubu to publicly instruct officials at the Presidential Villa to reverse the ban.

It stated that media freedom is the cornerstone of Nigeria’s democracy.

SERAP said the ban on the media must be lifted for public interest and accountability.

“We would be grateful if the recommended measures are taken within 48 hours of the receipt and/or publication of this letter.

“If we have not heard from you by then, SERAP shall consider appropriate legal actions to compel your government to comply with our request in the public interest,” it said
