SAN JOSE — Police arrested an Oakland resident earlier this month on suspicion of two armed robberies late last year, but detectives are still seeking a second suspect, authorities said.
On Dec. 18, 2023, San Jose police responded to a report that two businesses — one on the 3100 block of Monterey Road and the other on the 2900 block of south Bascom Avenue — were robbed by two armed men, according to a San Jose Police Department news release.
The robbers were dressed in all black and wore gloves and masks in both instances, police said. They brandished firearms at victims in the businesses and fled the area with cash, lottery scratchers and other items.
Detectives in the robbery unit identified the primary suspect in the robberies as a 37-year-old man from Oakland. Police said a second suspect is still unidentified and outstanding; they did not release a detailed description this week.
On March 7, San Jose police, with the assistance of the Oakland Housing Authority, arrested the Oakland suspect. Detectives reported that they found a firearm, ammunition, cash and a stolen vehicle at the man’s residence.
