Samsung Galaxy S24 to get Baidu AI chatbot integration in China

The Galaxy S24 is Samsung’s first AI phone, and it comes with the Galaxy AI suite. It comes with several AI-powered features, including one that can translate languages in real time during voice calls and messages. In China, the Galaxy S24 will use Baidu’s Ernie AI chatbot for real-time language translation and other features.

Galaxy S24 uses Baidu’s Ernie AI chatbot for AI tasks in China
Ernie is the rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI chatbot, and it can generate human-like responses to questions. The latest version of Ernie is 4.0, and it was launched in October 2023. Baidu says that Ernie 4.0 is its most powerful foundational model, and it is fully capable of understanding, reasoning, memory, and generation. The Chinese firm claims that Ernie 4.0 is as powerful and capable as OpenAI’s ChatGPT based on GPT-4. It is powering Samsung’s Note Assist feature on Galaxy S24 smartphones, and it can translate content, summarize lengthy content into short text, and format content intelligently.
Baidu’s press release said, “Now featuring Ernie’s understanding and generation capabilities, the upgraded Samsung Note Assistant can translate content and also summarize lengthy content into clear, intelligently organized formats at the click of a button, streamlining the organization of extensive text.” Other AI-powered features on the Galaxy S24 are also powered by Ernie in the Chinese market.

By the end of December 2023, Ernie had over 100 million users, and it reached these numbers within four months of its release to the public. It competes with Alibaba’s Tongyi Qianwen and Tencent’s Hunyuan in China in the Generative AI segment. Samsung has a minuscule market share in China and its market share is less than 1%, according to the latest numbers. However, when you look at the foldable smartphone segment, Samsung still has over 17% market share in China.
