RSUTH doctors laud Fubara over residency training grant


The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Rivers University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) branch, have expressed their gratitude to Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the payment of the medical residency grant to some of their members.

Recall that Rivers State Government announced the release of N300 million as a grant for 389 medical doctors in the State Civil Service who are undergoing residency training .

This grant covers the requirements for two consecutive years (2023-2024), with payments ranging from N800,000 to N900,000 per resident doctor per year.

Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt about the grant, Dr. Nimi NGO Briggs, President of the ARD, RSUTH branch, described the governor’s gesture as a demonstration of his unwavering support for sustaining specialist training.

“This remarkable gesture not only underscores the government’s commitment to advancing healthcare in Rivers State but also significantly boosts the morale of resident doctors,” Dr. Briggs observed.

He added that the grant would empower doctors to delve deeper into research, “foster innovation, and equip us with the necessary tools to provide the highest standards of healthcare to the people of Rivers State and Nigeria at large.”

Dr. Briggs continued, “The residency training program is the backbone of our healthcare system, as it molds the next generation of medical specialists who will tackle pressing health challenges and advance medical research for improving healthcare service delivery.”

“I want to sincerely appreciate His Excellency for promoting doctors, payment of upgraded hazard allowance and payment of consolidated medical salary structure in our dear state.

This milestone can only be achieved by a visionary leader”.
