Romano says Pochettino made one ‘interesting’ omission from Chelsea XI that could’ve cost them the game vs Wolves

Chelsea star Mykhaylo Mudryk was missed against Wolverhampton Wanderers

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano feels Mauricio Pochettino should have employed Mykhaylo Mudryk for Chelsea against Wolves. The 23-year-old came off the bench in the 71st minute but couldn’t have a reasonable impact to overturn the deficit.

Pochettino earlier commented that Mudryk has not met the standards in training, which has seen him start off the bench. The former Shakhtar Donetsk was enjoying a productive run of games starting the last few matches but suddenly hasn’t been convincing when he has been brought in as a substitute.

However, the player had an assist to his name in a 4-2 defeat to the Wolves but it was not enough to salvage a point as they suffered another 4-2 defeat. However, Romano feels Mudryk should be ahead of other forwards considering his immense talent.

The transfer expert shared his thoughts on Mudryk’s current situation at Chelsea and said he should have started, he further commented on his Daily Briefly column on CaughtOffside:

“Pochettino also made the interesting choice to bench Mykhaylo Mudryk. I’d always play Mudryk because I believe he has huge potential, but I’m not training the squad every day as Pochettino does, so I think we have to respect this decision and see if the situation can change.”

Mudryk has four goals this season for Chelsea.

Pochettino opted to go with a more experienced attack with Raheem Sterling on the left and Christopher Nkunku as No. 9, but that barely paid any price, and we were less dangerous during the attack. Sterling couldn’t gel with Nkunku and was nowhere to be seen during the attack.

Sterling has been inconsistent, and we cannot entirely depend on him; he always fails to deliver when we need him most, while for Nkunku, it was reasonable because he was playing his second game after recovering from a hip injury. But the Frenchman was not entirely involved in the game.

Maybe starting Mudryk would make some difference, but the Ukrainian forward himself is suffering a dip in form, and Pochettino has been left with no choice. Bringing Mudryk in when the game is heading towards the end won’t make sense because he doesn’t have enough experience to make an impact.
