It was another bad day for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State as over 70 Chieftains of the party with more than 5000 members defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The event tagged, 11th Hour Homecoming witnessed notable chieftains of the APC mounting the podium at Isaac Boro Park, the venue of the event and denounced their membership of the party.
Speaking at the event, Rivers state Chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Desmond Akawor said the unprecedented developments which Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration has brought to the people of the state were responsible for the massive movement from the APC to the PDP.
23rd Meeting of the PDP Rivers State chapter, we had a discussion and said that the mandate we gave you, in our investigating and confirmation you have executed beyond our expectations.
“You have put Rivers State on the Radar of Nigeria and we resolved that today we issue you a certificate confirming to you that the same party that elected you we are saying that you have done well, you have performed and we are happy with what you have done”.
Presenting the certificate to Governor Nyesom Wike on behalf of the State Party Executive, Secretary of the party, Dr Benibo George said the award was in appreciation of Governor Wike’s excellent performance in office.
At the event, the defectors took turns explaining the reasons for leaving their former party for the PDP.
According to former APC Board of Trustees member, Chief Sam Sam Jaja said though they had given the Governor all sorts of names in the past, they had discovered that he is someone full of compassion, grace, love and trust.
The former APC Board of Trustees member who disclosed that they had embarked on a regrettable political expedition, stressed that they were not lured by anyone to come back to the PDP, maintaining that they came of their own volition.
“None of us were invited to come. We came of our own will and volition. Thank you very much for receiving us. And thank you Party chairman for also accepting to receive us because we have not been fair to you.
“We have retraced our steps and have found our way back home. Forgive our mistakes in the past and reintegrate us to work with you for a better Rivers State. We pledge our loyalty will be 100% and not less than that “.
Another decamped, Comrade Marvin Yobana said he had been severally abused by people concerning the very poor performance of the APC.
