England will win Euro 2024 if Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden are let loose in the midfield.
That’s according to Rio Ferdinand, who believes the attacking duo must be named in the starting XI alongside Declan Rice.
With this summer’s Euros in Germany fast-approaching, Three Lions fans have already debated on which players could lead them to glory.
Gareth Southgate knows he’ll have an abundance of quality at his disposal during the tournament, particularly within the midfield.
Amid his recent rise into the Manchester United first-team, Kobbie Mainoo has been touted as a potential starter despite being just 18.
However, former England defender Ferdinand believes two players in particular must start in Germany alongside Arsenal general Rice.
Appearing on talkSPORT Drive, the 81-time capped international was asked to name his midfield three for Euro 2024: “I’ve been consistent.
“I’d play Declan Rice holding and I’d say to Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden, ‘Work it out you two, just go and do your thing, and win us the Euros.’
“They win us the Euros if them two are allowed to have a bit of free rein in there, if we do that we win.”
Speaking more on Foden and Bellingham, he added: “They’re two great players who you let and just go and have a little bit of free rein and let them loose.
“You’ve got enough around them players to be able to supply others, score goals and be match-winners.”
All three of Ferdinand’s midfield selections have enjoyed excellent personal seasons with their respective clubs ahead of the summer.
Rice has shown nothing but even further improvement since signing for Arsenal thanks to commanding performances that could guide them to Premier League glory.
Bellingham has amassed 30 goal contributions, doing so an incredible debut season at European giants Madrid and at just 20-years-old.
Foden has scored 22 goals and assisted another ten this season for City across all competitions, including two hat-tricks as they eye yet another treble.
England therefore boast some of best midfield talent world football has to offer, with all three crucial for their respective clubs.
And should the trio all start at Euro 2024 like Ferdinand envisages, then the Three Lions could certainly be set to go all the way.
