Police urge stakeholders in Niger to tackle youth restiveness

The Niger State Police Command has urged the Chanchaga local council, in collaboration with necessary stakeholders, to begin to address the issue of youth restiveness without fear or favour in the Minna metropolis.

Commissioner of Police Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman made this call during a visit to the chairman of Chanchaga LG, Aminu Y. Ladan, with the council cabinet members after his tour of area commands across the state in Minna.

He observed that historically, youth restiveness had been ascribed to some areas in Minna while encouraging stakeholders to get angry about flushing hard drugs out of the city to make it a drug-free town.

The CP commended the chairman for joining the security agencies in the pursuit of the miscreants in society, adding that he cannot do it alone without the support of all and sundry.

” However, by the positions of the councillors and directors in the Council, naturally, intelligence would come their way, and we are urging you to forward such information to the police and other security agencies for quick intervention.

“Be vigilant, be proactive and cooperate with security agencies,” he said.

He urged parents and religious leaders to preach against social menace, rascality, youth brigandage, thuggery and robberies and ensure the miscreants are submitted to the police for necessary legal action to show that such parents do not condone criminality, as no singular institution can tackle these challenges alone.

Responding, the chairman of Chanchaga LG council, Ladan, said

The council is working with the traditional institution through the district or village heads to eject any identified rascal families from the communities.

He also stated that community members are encouraged to always be ready to testify against criminality in a court of law for diligent prosecution.

“We also identified marriage as one of the challenges, where people gather at night without security consciousness, and when hoodlums attack, it could lead to loss of life. Therefore, the Council had resolved that every occasion should commence in the morning and end by 6 pm to avoid any security breaches, “the council chairman added.
