The Kaduna state Police command has apprehended two suspects for attempting to bury a man alive in Zaria.
The arrest follows a viral video showing the victim, Abubakar Aliyu, 20, from Gauraki village, with only his head exposed after being buried.
The command’s PPRO, ASP Mansir Hassan, in a statement said the incident began when Aliyu was accused of stealing a phone belonging to one of the suspects, Abdullahi AbdulKadir.
The PPRO stated that both AbdulKadir and his brother, Yahaya AbdulKadir, had worked with Aliyu at a construction site in Abuja. When the phone went missing, the workers decided that Aliyu’s wages would be used to replace it. Feeling unjustly accused, Aliyu returned to Zaria.
“On August 10, 2024, the suspects traced Aliyu to Zaria, forcibly abducted him, and buried him in a shallow grave, leaving only his head exposed. The victim was rescued after a passerby heard his cries and alerted the authorities.”
ASP Hassan stated that the command will launch thorough investigation into the incident and prosecute those responsible for the attempted homicide.
