The operatives of the Edo State Police Command have begun a manhunt for a suspect simply identified as Promise for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Edo State.
Sunday Telegraph gathered that the incident happened at Uwa Street, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was also gathered that the suspect lured the minor into his room and raped her and abandoned her in a state of unconsciousness before absconding.
The State Command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident.
He said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Adesuwa Police Station, Benin City received a report of defilement on March 27, 2024, from the mother of the victim who resides along Uwa Street off, Sapele Road, Benin.
According to him, the woman reported at the station that her 13 year- old daughter was raped in a state of coma by one Promise whose surname was yet to be known.
He said the victim was rushed to Edo State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
Chidi also said efforts are on by the police to arrest the fleeing suspect who has been identified as Promise and bring him to justice.
