The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has debunked reports making the rounds that it withdrew Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel attached to Mrs Aisha Buhari, wife of former President Muhammadu Buhari, and his brother, Mallam Mamman Daura.
Reports earlier emerged online stating that the NPF, via a wireless message, announced the withdrawal of the police aides from Aisha and Mamman.
But a statement issued subsequently by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the report as fake.
“The Police hereby unequivocally clarifies that the signal is fake and did not emanate from the NPF or any of its formations,” the statement said.
According to the spokesperson, the purported signal deviated from the police telegraphic message structure and standard.
He said: “The signal bears the signature of a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), which is highly irregular, as a signal of this nature would typically be signed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), who heads such formations, and not a higher-ranking officer.”
