I think most of the A-36’s eventually had their dive brakes welded shut or secured some other way because of the unfavorable flight characteristics they created…

First combat use of the original P 51 design with the is on engine. Used both I the Mediterranean and China Burma India theaters of war. The dive brakes were seldom used and were eventually wired shut. This is the first picture I have seen extended in flight.
