Osimhen ‘working hard’ to achieve Premier League dream

Osimhen ‘working hard’ to achieve Premier League dream

Victor Osimhen has declared interest in playing in the Premier League amid a stunning season for Serie A leaders Napoli.

Osimhen is the Italian topflight’s top scorer this season, having netted 19 goals in 21 appearances and has become Napoli’s most important player on their way to establishing an astonishing 15-point lead at the top of the table.

The 24-year-old’s scintillating form has put Europe’s biggest clubs on red alert and he has now ramped up transfer speculation after revealing to The Athletic that he is “working hard” to one day play in the Premier League.

“I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world (Serie A) is an amazing feeling for me,” Osimhen said.

“A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I’m in one of the best leagues in the world, which is the Italian Serie A.

“I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League some day but like I said, it’s a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well.”

His latest comments would have sent Osimhen’s Premier League chasers into a frenzy, with this public declaration a signal that he could be ready to swap the sunshine of Italy for the cold frost of England in the summer.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been linked with launching audacious efforts for the Nigerian forward, with each needing a proven 20-goal-a-season scorer to lead their line next season.

Osimhen currently has two years left to run on his existing deal that expires in 2025, but will most certainly leave before the end of that as Napoli look to avoid missing out on a huge payday for their star striker.

Osimhen also spoke about his experience dealing with racism in Italy.

“Since I came to Napoli in the city, I haven’t experienced what they call racism because everyone takes the blacks and whites as brothers unlike some of the other cities I have gone to,” Osimhen added.

“I’ve been racially abused twice, and it’s a bad feeling. But of course, the love from Napoli fans through messages, phone calls and even in the stadium makes me not really think about these things.”

Despite the love he has received from Napoli fans, Osimhen insists he will always speak out against racism because it affects players mentally.

“But I’ll try to preach as much as I can that racism is a bad disease, and it can make someone commit suicide in terms of where we blacks are coming from. So I think I have a chase to erase that, but it’s not going to be easy.”
