The Chairman of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), John Gabaya, has said there was an explosion at Islamiyyah School, Kuchibiyu Community, in the council.
Confirming the incident in a telephone call on Monday, he said the explosion claimed the life of a student, with four others injured.
Gabaya explained that the proprietor of the school had brought some children from Katsina to commence teaching and learning.
According to him, prior to the explosion, he had reported the activities of the school to the Divisional Police Officer for investigation.
He said the area has been thrown into pandemonium following the explosion.
Gabaya said police operatives and a bomb squad have since been deployed to the scene of the explosion.
“Yes, there was an explosion at an Islamiyyah school today. One of the students was killed, with four others injured.
I asked the DPO to immediately take the Malam who brought those students from Katsina to Kuchibiyu so that he could interrogate him. But at the scene, one person died instantly.
The three other persons were rushed to the hospital. There were four, according to what the Malam said. There’s also this other girl who was selling ‘awara’; she was affected as well.
Meanwhile, efforts to get comments from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command at the time of filing the report proved abortive as the phone of the spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, was not reachable.”
