October 1: Police urge Take it Back Movement to shun protest in Kogi

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, has urged the executive of the “Take It Back” movement to shun their planned protest scheduled for October 1, 2024.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Ovye Aya, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday night following a meeting between the command and the executive of the “Take It Back” movement in Lokoja.

Aya revealed that the meeting was in response to the group’s letter dated Friday, 27th September 2024, which the command received regarding their planned protest in the state.

The CP advised the group to reconsider their planned protest and allow the government more time to address the nation’s economic challenges.

“The Commissioner of Police told the group that they have the right to a peaceful protest in accordance with extant laws.

However, it is important to avoid playing into the hands of disgruntled elements or hoodlums who may hijack the process and unleash mayhem on innocent citizens, leading to the destruction of properties and critical infrastructure, which could, in turn, have a serious adverse impact on the nation’s economy.”

According to the statement, the leader of the group, Mose Opeyemi, assured the Commissioner of Police that as enlightened and law-abiding youths in Kogi State, they accepted his advice as a father and promised to remain committed to the peace, progress, and development of the state.

Present at the meeting, according to the statement, were DCP Chike Louis Nwabuwa, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, ACP Aigbe Aghahowa, SP William Ovye Aya, PPRO, SP Emmanuel Abogonye, Second in Command SID/OC Monitoring Unit, and DSP Christopher Okoebor, Personal Assistant to the CP. Members of the group included Mose Opeyemi (Coordinator), Oloruntoba Segun, Muhammed Abdul, Ande Joel, Michael John, Musa Matthew, Usman Alfa, Mohammed Usman Ahmed, Ibrahim Shaibu, and Adama Shaibu.
