NNPP disowns ‘illegal’ national leaders

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has slammed those parading themselves as leaders of the party to stop doing so as their actions amount to contempt of court.

The party’s national legal adviser, Robert Hon, stated this during a media briefing at its headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

The party urged Nigerians to be wary of those it described as impersonators and avoid having anything to do with them on behalf of NNPP as it will amount to violation of the law.

He said the NNPP has its National Chairman in the person of Abba Kawu Ali and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) who are duly recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its national officers.

Hon said the NNPP presently has no chairman or secretary in Adamawa State noting that the duo of PP Elisha and Yerima Sahabo are not recognised by the party.

“We have invited you to enable us as the National Working Committee (NWC) members of NNPP to put the record straight on the misconduct of some elements who have no locus but continue to parade themselves as leaders of our great party. These people were expelled from the party in line with its constitution. Not only that, there is a restraining order of a court of competent jurisdiction stopping them from parading themselves as leaders of this party. They never challenged this order not tried to in any way vacate it. As we are here today, the order subsists.

“Flowing from the above, all the activities of this renegade group amount to a contempt of court which the laws of our great country seriously frown at. This court order was not only served on them but media houses were also copied. However, it is very unfortunate that some media houses, unknowingly, apart from abetting there people, continue to flout the orders of the honourable court.

“We also want to placed it on record that this group who have ceased to be members of our party, even as affirmed by a valid court judgement, have individually and collectively suffered losses at the courts in their misadventures of fighting NNPP. Their efforts to drag the judiciary into their shenanigans have been stoutly resisted by the courts which have consistently asked them to go and settle with their authentic party leadership.

We also want to tell Nigerians that NNPP presently do not have chairman and secretary for the party in Adamawa State. In that line, the duo of PP Elisha and Yerima Sahabo who are parading themselves as chairman and secretary of the party in Adamawa are nothing but impersonators and are not recognised by the party.”

While assuring Nigerians that NNPP and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will not disappoint Nigerians and people of Kano with the mandate which they give freely to the governor, the legal adviser said the party is fully prepared to take part in Saturday, February 3 rerun and bye elections across the country.
