Today, the Federal Executive Council approved the National Policy on Blockchain proposed by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria. This indicates that the Nigerian Government has officially endorsed the use of blockchain in the country. The relevant agencies are now expected to create suitable frameworks for usage and regulation.
Additionally, a Steering Committee has been established, which will be headed by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and will include all pertinent Nigerian Government agencies. The committee will oversee the implementation of the new National Policy on Blockchain. The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami, stated that this is the 23rd National Policy by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
