The Morgan Motor Company returned to the United States market in 2023 with the Super 3, a.k.a. the replacement of the 3-Wheeler. Deliveries kicked off in the latter half of 2023, and Morgan has already issued a recall for 62 of those vehicles. According to documents published by the federal watchdog, the Super 3 is a motorcycle rather than a reverse trike.
Morgan was informed about said condition in December 2023 by a US dealer, which prompted the British automaker to conduct a myriad of tests on suspect parts. Some parts were below the automaker’s engineering specification, yet the weld performance exceeded the force required to lock the wheels.
ADV Brightware ultimately acknowledged its fault and corrected the recall condition. Owners of Super 3 vehicles equipped with potentially defective housings will be informed about said concern via first-class mail no later than February 23. Suspect vehicles were assembled between February 28, 2023 and November 17, 2023 at the British automaker’s Malvern production facility.
Owners can verify whether their Super 3 reverse trikes are recalled by running the 17-character vehicle identification number on the NHTSA‘s website. The only VINs listed in the report attached below are SA9M3TAA0PP202001 and SA9M3TAA8PP202070. It should be noted that the American model’s brake system will soon supersede that of the UK- and Euro-spec Super 3.
For the time being, the Super 3 is the only Morgan available to purchase stateside. There are no plans to bring the Plus Six roadster to the United States, but with a bit of luck, the Plus Four will become available later this year. Similar to the Six, the Four is based on the Morgan CX-Generation platform.
As implied, the Four in Plus Four stands for precisely four cylinders arranged in a line. The powerplant in question is the B48, a BMW engine that puts out 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet (400 Nm) of torque. If those numbers seem familiar, that’s because the 330i uses this engine.
The Super 3, by comparison, relies on a gasoline direct-injected engine supplied by the Ford Motor Company. 118 horsepower and 110 pound-feet (150 Nm) is pretty good for a 1.5-liter lump with three cylinders rather than four, especially in a vehicle with a dry weight of 1,400 pounds (635 kilograms). Excluding sales tax and the destination charge, the Super 3 retails at a staggering $53,937.98 in the United States. By comparison, the six-cylinder Toyota GR Supra 3.0 is $55,400.
