‘Meatball’ Molly McCann broke her silence as she made a major announcement. Molly lost to Bruna Brasil in UFC 304 last weekend.
Molly lost on points to the Brazilian fighter in what was a tough night for the Norris Green fighter. This was Molly’s second fight as a strawweight, with Molly dropping down from a flyweight after two consecutive losses.
However it wasn’t to be for Molly on the night after she suffered a brutal knee to the stomach in the first round, from which she struggled to recover. Last night, she spoke publicly for the first time since the defeat via her Instagram as she told fans she would be taking a break from the sport and social media.

Molly shared a picture of her enjoying a drink after the match and smiling with her opponent. In the accompanying caption she said: “Last night was Bruna’s night! Massive congratulations to her. I wasn’t able to recover after that knee the firm.
“Few broken bones and some heavy bruises. S*** night in the office for me but it is what it is. Hope you all enjoyed a great night of fights. Thank you to all UFC/ UFC PI staff for the care and love.
“We live to fight another day. I’m gonna be taking a bit of time off for my mental and physical state. Much love the firm!”
Molly turned comments off on the post but many fans have supported her on X/Twitter in the aftermath of the fight. Peter Furlong said: “@MeatballMolly, what a warrior and extreme spirit, well done on a performance that showed grit and determination, not many can win every fight but few show the character that we know you can. Well done girl.”
Sam said: “Chin up @MeatballMolly, those were some brutal body knees and kicks you took and still went the distance. We win some, we lose some, it’s how we keep it moving girl, until next time.”
Molly has previously spoken out about how online trolls have affected her in the past. Referring to her loss against Julija Stoliarenko in London in July 2023, Molly said last week: “I never doubted myself until I got in there. When I got beat, the first thing I said was f***ing hell, I’m going to get destroyed online.
Molly’s coach Paul Rimmer and her friend Leah took her phone off her. Molly said: “Paul took my phone off me gave it to Leah, Leah logged it out of Instagram. All anyone said was, don’t go online, don’t go online. I was like, is it bad? They said, I’ve never seen it this bad for someone.”
There was happier news for Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett. He defeated his opponent King Green in the first round of his fight. The Huyton-born fighter is hoping to fight at Anfield soon.
Paddy walked out with an armband on his left arm in respect for Chad Jones, a seven-year-old who lost his life after a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Chad, known affectionately as ‘Chaddy the Baddy’ to his family and friends died on May 26, 2024.
Rounding off his post-fight interview, Pimblett dedicated his win to his young fan. Paddy said: “I just want to dedicate this fight to little Chaddy the Baddy, seven years of age, lost his life to cancer, seven years old. He called himself Chaddy the Baddy because he’s a Baddy fan, his name was Chad Jones, little man that’s for you.”
