Marc Cucurella eager to revitalize Chelsea career after return from injury
It’s been some sort of a habit lately, coming in on a big transfer of money to Stamford Bridge capturing all sorts of excitement only to end up on the fringes shovelling the soil back to have an opportunity to salvage a career in West London, and Marc Cucurella has been part of that long-growing list.
Chelsea signed Marc Cucurella for a fee of around £60 million which made him the second most expensive left-back in the summer of 2022. Such enormous fees associated with the transfer brought huge pressure and expectations which the Spaniard has struggled to live up to at Stamford Bridge.
Cucurella has always been a highly rated full-back coming from the tiki-taka school of La Masia and has flourished under several tacticians with specific demands while excelling in offensive contributions. His strenuousness to find his footing with the Blues has been complemented by the inconsistent performances of the club since he moved to West London and the injury problems he has suffered since.
The 25-year-old has only made 13 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino in the ongoing campaign. The Spaniard has just returned to the fold from another extended spell on the sidelines owing to an ankle injury that he sustained in December, making his comeback in a 3-2 win against Newcastle United.
Speaking with Chelsea’s official website, Marc Cucurella spoke about the difficulties of the recovery process and expressed his delight over returning to wearing the Chelsea blues for the first time this year.
‘It’s not easy when you’re a player and you’re out injured – it’s difficult,’ Cucurella speaking to Chelsea’s official website.
‘I tried to work hard and put everything into my work. I had the opportunity to play and I’m really happy that I could help the team and stay on the pitch. Hopefully, it’s the first game of many. I think the team played really well. We dominated the game, but we conceded two easy goals and I think we need to improve on this. We deserved the win and I’m very happy for the team.’
