Chelsea are on the hunt for a new manager after Mauricio Pochettino’s departure from Stamford Bridge, and it is anyone’s guess as to who will be the next coach.
It seems like the Blues are favoring hiring an up-and-coming manager of the Graham Potter mold, as opposed to an established elite manager in the Thomas Tuchel or Pochettino realm.
Kieran McKenna has become increasingly murmured as the top candidate for Chelsea, as he has impressed by promoting Ipswich Town back to the Premier League after so many years.
Interestingly enough, Chelsea aren’t the only English powerhouse in on McKenna. Per The Mirror, both Manchester United and Chelsea are both going after McKenna as their next manager.
Manchester United are expected to part ways with Erik ten Hag after a worst-ever finish in eighth in the Premier League, missing out on European football in the process.
What makes this situation so interesting is that Pochettino is back on Man Utd’s radar as a possible manager, just as he was after he left Tottenham before later choosing the doomed PSG project.
Manchester United could make life easy on Chelsea by hiring the manager who just left. Or they could make things difficult by taking their apparent favorite candidate, McKenna, off the market.
Surely, Man United are also watching other Chelsea managerial targets like Thomas Frank and Ruben Amorim quite closely, which would make Boehly and Co. cross their fingers even more than Poch is INEOS’ pick.
