Manchester United and Chelsea considering Kyle Walker-Peters move

Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters is attracting the attention of a string of big clubs, with Manchester United, Chelsea and former side Tottenham all considering a move for him.

The 25-year-old remains under contract with the Saints until the summer of 2025 so his club are in no direct pressure to sell him, but talkSPORT report that the England international is keen on making a move.

Walker-Peters has reportedly stalled over the possibility of a new contract at St Mary’s as a move to a team competing nearer the top of the Premier League table could be an option.

The full-back has been a regular in the Southampton side since completing a permanent move from Spurs in 2020 and a guaranteed place in the starting XI might not be something that he will have elsewhere.

Diogo Dalot has been the first choice at right-back under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, with Walker-Peters eyed as competition for him as Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains out of favour.

Chelsea are looking for back-up for Reece James due to injury concerns, but there is little doubt that James will remain the preferred option even if a new arrival comes in.

Tottenham have had issues at right wing-back despite having three options in that position as Antonio Conte does not seem thrilled with any of them.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have largely been competing for the position, with summer-signing Djed Spence also available but not getting much of a chance.

Walker-Peters has shown some versatility at Saints, also filling in at left-back when required, which will make him all the more appealing as an option for a squad challenging on numerous fronts.

Southampton are actually doing just that themselves after back-to-back wins in cup competitions over the last week, beating Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and then Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.

Nathan Jones’s side progress to the semi-finals of the latter where they will take on Newcastle United, while Nottingham Forest play Manchester United in the other semi.
