A man was stabbed for his mobile phone by a gang of men, in what police described as a “violent attack”. The victim was stopped by a group of men on Foul Lane in Southport early Friday morning, August 2. The men demanded he hand over his mobile phone.

He was subsequently attacked by one of the gang and suffered slash wounds to his arms. The men then walked away from the area and left the victim, who was treated in hospital for his injuries.


Police were called to the scene at 5.25am. They are appealing for information from anyone who was on Foul Lane or High Park at the time of the attack.

Detective Inspector Paul McVeigh of Merseyside Police said: “We are in the early stages of investigating what was a violent attack on a man who was assaulted and left with slash wounds after a group of offenders stole his mobile.

“If you were on Foul Lane or High Park and saw the attack or the group of suspects early this morning please contact us. Similarly if you live in the area and have any CCTV footage of the attack from early this morning please call police immediately so we can find those responsible.

”Information from our community is vital if we are to stop such violent crimes that causes fear in our communities.”
