Morocco have scored a massive victory over Belgium on day eight of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, after disappointment for Arab teams and their fans yesterday.
The Atlas Lions beat the uninspired Red Devils 2-0 at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha with two second-half goals – the first from Abdelhamid Sabiri, and the second from Zakaria Aboukhlal.
Morocco built off of the success of a 0-0 draw against World Cup stalwarts Croatia on Wednesday, which was part of a series of strong showings from Arab teams at the tournament.
But prior to Belgium v Morocco, Arab teams’ second matches had brought lots of disappointment, with their chances of moving out of the group stage dented by losses.
Yesterday, Saudi Arabia lost 2-0 to Poland, while Tunisia lost 1-0 to Australia. On Friday, Qatar were beaten 3-1 by Senegal.
In today’s first match, Costa Rica scored an upset 1-0 win over Japan.
Later on Sunday, Canada will take on Croatia and Germany will face Spain.
Wow, this is impressive from Morocco.
