The Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, has described judges of lower courts, such as magistrates and customary courts, as critical stakeholders in justice delivery.
Ohwovoriole stated this in Asaba when members of the customary court department and magistracy paid him a courtesy visit.
Ohwovoriole said that by working together, they would achieve the objectives of the state government, which, according to him, include the enforcement of the rule of law in the state.
On the request of the group for the state government to increase their retirement age to 65 years, Mr Ohwovoriole told them that there must be established procedures and guidelines to go about such issues since it was a national issue and not that of the state.
He lauded them for their support and assured them that everything would be handled in line with the rule of law established for them.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Carl Moeteke, noted that the appointment of Mr. Ohwovoriole was a round peg in a round hole, stressing that they were proud of him having grown from the system to the rank of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN.
Moeteke appealed to the state government to increase their retirement age to 65, saying that Delta State should emulate states like Osun, Adamawa, and Kwara in this regard.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a collated document to Mr. Ohwovoriole.
