Let’s continue to keep faith in God over Nigeria’s situation — Mrs Fape

The President of the Mothers’ Union, Diocese of Remo Anglican Communion, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Kehinde Fape, has urged Nigerians to keep believing in God for the restoration of the country in this challenging period in the nation’s history.

She gave this admonition in her presidential address delivered at the 34th Mothers’ Union Annual Conference of the Diocese, held on Saturday at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.

Mrs. Fape noted that no one except the omnipresent God can deliver the country, as poverty, insecurity, corruption, environmental issues, and social vices have taken center stage in its affairs.

She encouraged Nigerians to be more prayerful in their day-to-day activities for the country to regain its lost glory and be a force to reckon with in the comity of nations.

At the gathering, which had in attendance the Chairman of African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, Ambassador Dr. Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosumu; the Baba Ijo and Iya Ijo of Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Chief Emmanuel Osibona and Chief Mrs. Comfort Olutunda; Mr. Omotayo Odumusi, who was the Chairman of the event; Mrs. Abosede Ayankoya; and a host of clergymen and laity in the Diocese, Mama Fape prayed for an end to kidnapping and other security issues confronting the country.

Speaking on the theme of the three-day conference which started on Friday, “God of Fathers,” she noted that the all-sufficient God was there for the fathers of Christians in the past, ensuring their victory over difficult situations they might find themselves in.

She said, “We as Christians have an identity in the past acts of God. We are His children and act in a manner that has been handed down to us through God’s Word by our ‘Fathers’ (Jude 1:3). We are a new creation in Christ – the past informs our present. How can we see through a crisis we may be facing? By knowing that God saw our Fathers through crises in the past. Confidence that King Jehoshaphat had by calling GOD OF OUR FATHERS!!! The past gives us confidence in the here and now.

“Whether it is the conflict in Israel and Palestine, Ukraine and Russia, Tribal war in Nigeria, Boko Haram, Kidnapping, or some of the storms, floods, destruction, unemployment, hardship, famine, scarcity of this and that, we have faced this time in our nation or the conflict we may be facing in our homes – this stanza shows to us that we have a God that will see us through. The God of our Fathers is our God in the here and now.”

She highlighted some of the achievements of the Mothers’ Union in the Diocese in the last year under her leadership, which included the dedication of the Women’s Organization House; enrollment of new Mothers’ Union members; annual musical concert; and care for indigent students, the aged, widows, and the sick and bereaved.

The Bishop of the Diocese and Archbishop of Lagos Ecclesiastical Province, The Most Rev Dr. Olusina Fape, described the women’s organization in the Diocese as a vessel of honor.

He appreciated them for their contributions towards the work and progress in the Diocese.

Fape said, “One thing that gives me utmost joy is the contribution of the women’s organization in the Diocese. Without the women’s organization, we don’t know what the Diocese would be. I appreciate you for supporting our Ministry.”
