1. Ex-Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision on fuel subsidy removal, saying it is not easy to govern a country like Nigeria. He said this in a brief interactive session with state house correspondents on Friday.

2. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has declared a nationwide strike with effect from Wednesday over the increase in the pump price of fuel as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy. Briefing journalists at the end of NLC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Friday, Comrade Joe Ajaero, the NLC president, said the union had agreed on a nationwide strike.

3. President Bola Tinubu has named Senator George Akume, immediate past Minister of Special Duties, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. He also officially announced the appointment of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila as his Chief of Staff.

4. The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, on Friday dissolved the state’s ninth assembly following the dissolution order issued and read by the Clerk of the House, Bernard Nule. Nule read the dissolution order of the House during the valedictory session held by its members.

5. The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) has thrown its weight behind the Federal Government on the decision to remove petrol subsidy. The Governors, who were elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed their support during a courtesy call on President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

6. Local government Chairmen in Plateau State have declared that the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang has no power to suspend them from office. The governor had on Thursday announced the suspension of all the 17 LG Chairmen claiming the inability to submit accounts for their expenditures. But in a swift reaction on Friday, the council chairmen rejected the suspension.

7. Court in Makurdi, Benue State has affirmed the suspension of Iyorchia Ayu from the Peoples Democratic Party and his eventual removal as the party’s National Chairman. Justice Maurice Ikpambese, who gave the judgement on Friday, said Ayu did not contest that he did not pay his dues up to date.

8. Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) allocation of the position of the Deputy Speaker to the South East as provocative to the Igbos. The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation said on Friday that APC’s action was not just provocative but highly unreflective and disgusting.

9. The Ondo State Police Command on Friday said it commenced an investigation into the death of a woman, Alhaja Kadijat Falekulo. The 70-year-old was reportedly killed by some hoodlums in her room in the Sabo area of Ondo town, Ondo State, by unknown assailants. A machete cut was seen on her neck.

10. Men of the Rivers State Police Command on Friday killed four suspected cultists alleged to be terrorising Rundele and adjoining communities in the Emuoha Local Government Area of the state. The state Commissioner of Police, Polycarp Emeka, at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday, alleged that the suspects were responsible for the murder of four persons, including two vigilantes.
