1. President Bola Tinubu has said the country cannot continue to service its debt with 90 percent of its revenue. He noted that the country was headed for destruction should that continue. Tinubu spoke during the Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association on Sunday in Abuja.
2. The Nigerian Navy has vowed to fish out, arrest, and prosecute fleeing owners of abandoned sea-going vessels arrested for alleged illegal oil bunkering activities. This is as the Navy insisted that a vessel, ‘MV Cecelia’, set ablaze by its operatives in Rivers State recently was involved in oil theft
3. A 29-year-old South African drug trafficker, Erasmus Jean-Pierre, has been arrested in Nigeria for attempting to export 2.6kg of methamphetamine concealed in his luggage to Middle-East Asia through Nigeria. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said it frustrated the moves by a transnational cartel to ship drugs concealed in a pair of male slippers and a wooden drum to Indonesia.
4. A yet-to-be-identified suspected armed robber has been beaten to death while attempting to rob a resident identified simply as Victor at Olugboso in the Agege area of Lagos State. It was gathered on Sunday that the suspect broke into Victor’s apartment at midnight and attempted to rob him of his valuables with a toy gun.
5. Two children have reportedly been killed in flood incidents that occurred at different locations at Nkwelle Awka, in Awka South Local Government of Anambra State on Friday. The deceased, who were between the ages of four and seven, were said to have lost their lives while carrying out activities around the flood plains.
6. In a display of loyalty, Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has reaffirmed his allegiance to Governor Godwin Obaseki amid recent tensions. Shaibu emphasized that loyalty transcends personal ambitions, highlighting the strength of their bond. Shaibu who spoke on Sunday at the 32nd anniversary of Edo State, held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, Edo State, described the governor as his elder brother.
7. Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, has again mocked the academic records of President Bola Tinubu. Atiku, who is challenging the authenticity of Tinubu’s degree certificate issued by Chicago State University, in the United States, said the president’s academic record continues to be a major source of confusion.
8. A medical doctor, Dr Asema Msuega, who was abducted in Ukum LGA of Benue State has regained his freedom from captivity after one month. Secretary of the Benue State Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr Ameh Godwin, in a statement at the weekend, confirmed the release of his abducted colleague from the captors’ den.
9. The federal government has directed that suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, should be allowed access to his lawyers and family members. The Nation learnt that his lawyers and family members have been having access to him in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for some weeks now.
10. Frodd and Tolanibaj were evicted from the ongoing Big Brother Naija All-Stars reality show on Sunday night. The show’s host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, announced it during the live eviction show. So far, five housemates have been evicted from the reality TV show.
