1. No fewer than 399 pieces of improvised explosive devices were recovered by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency from one Asana Leke, 39, along Mokwa-Jebba Road. The suspect, who said the explosives were handed to him at a park in Ibadan, Oyo State, to be delivered to someone in Kaduna, had since, alongside the exhibits, been transferred to the military authorities in Niger State.

2. Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago has expressed shock over Sunday’s boat accident that claimed many lives in Mokwa Local Government Area of the State. Twenty-four persons, mostly women and children, have been confirmed dead and over 30 people rescued, while a combined rescue operation by marine police and local divers in collaboration with Niger State Emergency Management Agency is ongoing.

3. The Labour Party senatorial candidate in the February 25, 2023 National Assembly Elections for Ebonyi South Zone, Linus Okorie, has knocked the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for saying he has the right to choose who will succeed him at the Senate. This was even as he urged the former governor to spend more energy in delivering quality and durable roads to Nigerians than desperately ‘politicking’ for who will replace him at the Red Chamber

4. United States’ President, Joe Biden, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his “strong leadership”, especially in the crisis triggered by the coup in Niger Republic. In a statement released by the White House during the second day of the G20 summit in India, the US President commended Tinubu for preserving the rule of law in Niger and also acknowledged his national economic policies in Nigeria.

5. The FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has directed its members across the six area councils to embark on an industrial strike from today, September 11, over non-payment of 25 months arrears. They are also protesting the non-implementation of a 40 per cent peculiar allowance by the council chairmen.

6. President Bola Tinubu will meet with the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to resolve the diplomatic dispute with Nigeria. The UAE authorities had in October 2022 slammed visa ban on Nigerians, coming shortly after the Emirates also suspended flights.

7. Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo has reflected on the distribution of appointments by President Bola Tinubu, saying that he is fair to the Southeast geo-political zone. The Governor, who is the National Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said the President has not marginalised Ndigbo, despite losing the five states during the February 25 election.

8. Following the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has said Nigeria currently stands on the precipice of uncertainty as the case moves to the Supreme Court. President of the Conference, Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, who spoke in Abuja on Sunday, said the judgment fell short of people’s legitimate expectations and moral and legal standards.

9. Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued a kidnap victim after an exchange of gunfire with the fleeing abductors at Umuota Village, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the State. The victim, identified simply as Abuchi, from Orumba South LGA of Anambra State, was said to have been kidnapped on Saturday evening and was rescued after residents alerted the police.

10. Residents of Magboro in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State were on Saturday thrown into mourning as a truck crushed a pregnant woman to death and injured her two-year-old child. It was gathered that the incident occurred when the truck with registration number TTD-643ZY suddenly swerved into Magboro market after it suffered brake failure, which made the driver lose control.
