LASBCA removes 15 Ajah illegal structures

The Lagos State Building Control Agency has removed 15 illegal attachments at Divine Homes Estate, located in Thomas Estate, Ajah, in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.

A statement by the agency on Thursday said this was in line with its statutory monitoring and enforcement operations.

According to the LASBCA General Manager, Gbolahan Oki, the 15 attachments were illegally converted from residential to commercial usage by their owners, “a trend that is becoming rampant in the built sector of the state.”

Oki further revealed that upon investigation it was noticed that parts of the residential units, including boys’ quarters and other sections of some buildings, in Divine Homes Estate were unlawfully converted to shops and utilised for other commercial activities.

This, according to the GM, was in total disregard to the physical planning regulations and building codes of the state, adding that the structures constituted a significant threat to the estate’s original plan of a residential area.

Oki also disclosed that quit and demolition notices had earlier been served on the owners of the demolished attachments before embarking on the removal exercise.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the citizenry through thorough and effective monitoring of all ongoing building constructions in the state to ensure a harmonious, well-planned, secured and sustainable development where all forms of illegality are eradicated.

He stressed that LASBCA was ready to “collaborate with estate executives and concerned citizens for robust monitoring and enforcement activities in the state that will help uphold building regulations, promote safety, and maintain the unique character of each neighbourhood across the state.”
