The Lagos State Government has recently deployed an additional 500 Traffic Management Solution (TMS) devices to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel. The move aims to enhance transparency in traffic management across the state. At the closing of a 21-day scientific training of personnel on the usage of TMS devices, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, disclosed this development.
According to Oreagba, the present administration has introduced modern technological innovations to address the transport challenges of the state. The body camera is one of these innovations and it will provide accurate validation of any story tendered by both the traffic law officials and motorists. The TMS, pictorial and video evidences, would assist in investigating complaints lodged by aggrieved motorists.
Officers have received adequate training on the operation of the cameras, and the camera would have a significant effect on defiant behavior on the road. Oreagba assured that the camera would be a transparent procedure for both law enforcement officers and motorists. “Minor arguments on traffic laws violations will be put to rest through detailed recordings to be presented and analyzed at the Lagos State Mobile Court,” he added.
Oreagba enjoined members of the public, particularly motoring public, to always be conscious of traffic laws and obey road traffic signs across the state. Mr Olokodana Daodu, a LASTMA officer, emerged as the best officer during the training sessions. Daodu said the camera would provide another layer of security for LASTMA officers and dissuade would-be attackers from carrying out their heinous crimes, knowing that they would be captured by the body camera. He thanked the Lagos State Government for providing the agency with the devices, which would drastically reduce physical contact with the motoring public, particularly with traffic violators during enforcement across the state.
Finally, Oreagba urged the motoring public to contact the agency through its contact hotlines – 08100565860, 08129928503, and 08129928597 – in case of any observation or comment on the agency’s activities.
