Liverpool continue to be linked with a summer switch for Anthony Gordon
Anthony Gordon to Liverpool links appear unlikely to die down anytime soon as discussions continue regarding just where the Newcastle United winger will be playing his football come the start of the new season.
The Reds were offered the chance to sign Gordon at the end of June as Newcastle scrambled to raise funds to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations, which they eventually helped achieve through the sales of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.
Gordon was viewed as one possible sale, which Liverpool were made aware of, though a move back to Merseyside did not materialise after the Magpies’ request for Jarell Quansah to head in the opposite direction. It has since emerged Joe Gomez was offered up by the Reds to clinch a deal for the English winger, which later collapsed.
The Reds maintain a strong interest in Gordon, particularly with Mohamed Salah having entered the final year of his current deal and doubts over the long-term future of Luis Diaz, though it remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old ends up at Anfield.

Gordon has managed to remain quiet over his future in recent weeks, despite being in action at Euro 2024 with England, though has now offered an update with supporters on social media. Taking to Instagram, the forward has shared a collection of photos from his summer holiday.
One of the images posted by Gordon shows a book titled ‘The seven habits of highly effective people’, suggesting the ex-Everton star remains determined to continue his development both as a person and a player. Among those to comment on this social media post was Jude Bellingham, previously linked with a Liverpool transfer himself, who left a heart emoji for his England team-mate without adding any words to accompany this.
Liverpool may well test the resolve of Newcastle in the coming weeks, though their manager Eddie Howe has recently made clear his stance on a potential sale. “I’d welcome Anthony back with three arms if I had them,” Howe said.
“He’s an integral part of what we’re doing. We’ve had no conversations over the summer where it has been fractious or negative. He’s always been the Anthony Gordon who has given absolutely everything to Newcastle and I want to make that clear to all our supporters.
“Anthony needs a bit of a break but by the time he comes back, he’ll be ready to go. He’s such an important player for us. We didn’t want to lose anybody. Why would we want to lose our best players? We fought really hard to make the right decisions but in those last few weeks it was very, very difficult.
“It was a very difficult last couple of weeks of June. There was a lot of uncertainty and we didn’t know what was going to happen. The rules forced us to do things we didn’t want to do. I want to make that clear we didn’t want to sell any of the players we sold. Absolutely not. Why would we want to sell any of our promising young players? Elliot’s someone we’ve invested a lot of time in and it defied the inner feeling we all had associated with the club, it felt wrong.”
