Alex Iwobi has disclosed that he began his musical journey while simultaneously pursuing a professional football career at the age of 14.
The Super Eagles midfielder made these remarks during an interview with TheCable in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on Wednesday.
In March 2024, the 28-year-old athlete unveiled a previously unknown talent to his millions of social media followers.
He posted a brief excerpt of his unreleased rap music under the alias “17.” In the video clip, Iwobi demonstrated his rapping abilities, seamlessly delivering his lyrics over a UK Drill instrumental, accompanied by a montage of his on-field performances.
Subsequently, the Fulham player released a lively track titled ‘Don’t Shoot’ in June 2024.
Regarding his recently showcased musical talent, Iwobi stated that he had been “doing a bit of both” music and football during his formative years.
He further mentioned that he has been involved in music since his teenage years, noting that the revelation of this talent comes as a surprise to many, as he is only now making it public.
Iwobi also indicated that he possesses “so many unreleased songs”, and that his team will determine the appropriate time for their release.
“The area I grew up in in London is either you play football or become an artiste. I was doing a bit of both,” Iwobi said.
“It is only recently that I started showcasing that I like music, but I have been doing music since the age of 14. It is a surprise to the world because I am just publishing it, but I have been doing it for a very long time.
“Anytime my major team that handles my music and I think it is the best time to put out music, then we will put it out. They know best. Whenever they think its right. But until then, I have so many unreleased songs.”
