A Nigerian dentist has voiced skepticism over the N30 million GoFundMe campaign created for TikToker Jarvis, who is battling a mouth tumor requiring urgent medical attention.
Hours after Jarvis and her boyfriend, Peller, announced the GoFundMe, requesting support from fans to cover the N30 million needed for surgery, the dentist, identified as @Dentalgiorgio on X, argued that the requested amount was excessively high.
@Dentalgiorgio claimed that the surgery, including tests, biopsy, admission charges, and feeding, would cost less than 1% of the requested donation at his center, amounting to about N200,000, with a total cost not exceeding N500,000. He described the fundraising effort as a “detty December fundraising” ploy.
Supporting this claim, another user, @Phatill, mentioned that similar tumor surgery at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) cost approximately N405,000 the previous year, suggesting that the campaign’s financial target was overly inflated.
The controversy has sparked a broader discussion on social media about the transparency and ethics of crowdfunding for medical treatments.
