‘If I speak there will be fire’ – Mohamed Salah left raging by Jurgen Klopp row at West Ham

Mohamed Salah refused to speak for fear of letting loose after a heated moment with Jurgen Klopp on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool teammate Darwin Nunez had to intervene and pull Salah away after a spat with Klopp on the touchline as the Reds toiled against West Ham in a 2-2 draw.

When asked for comment by reporters at the London Stadium, the Egypt international said: “If I speak today there will be fire.”

This was despite manager Klopp insisting the situation was resolved.

The German said: “No [I can’t say what was said], but we spoke about it already in the dressing room. For me, it’s done.”

Salah had been dropped from the starting XI for the match and the incident occurred when he was being introduced as a 77th-minute substitute.

After Michail Antonio headed in a late equaliser, Klopp sent on the cavalry, including Nunez, to try to take home all three points.

As Salah stood on the touchline, Klopp said something to the 31-year-old that appeared to incense him.

Words were exchanged before Salah started to point and gesticulate at his coach, forcing Nunez to intervene and pull him away.

While talk over Klopp and Salah’s exchange will dominate, the 2-2 draw to West Ham all-but ended Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League title this season.

Liverpool remain third in the Premier League, a point behind Manchester City and two points behind Arsenal.

However, City now have two games in hand over the Reds while Arsenal have one.

The result caps off a miserable week for Klopp, who saw his side lose to Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night.

Having crashed out of the Europa League and FA Cup, the Premier League had been Liverpool’s last chance to give Klopp a dream send-off.

The charismatic German will depart Anfield at the end of the season after nine years in charge, having won the Premier League and Champions League.

There are fears that it could spark an exodus, though, with Salah among those linked with a move away having turned down the Saudi Pro League last summer.

Another raid is expected in the next transfer window, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have yet to sign new contracts which will expire next season.
