“I wish we can stop making films where Nigerians travel abroad and act foolish” – Yul Edochie writes to Nollywood producers

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has written a message to Nollywood producers, expressing his displeasure at the kind of movies they make.

The actor stressed how they make movies where Nigerians travel abroad and act foolish. According to him, we sell ourselves short with such storylines.

He noted how foreign countries don’t make movies where a white man comes to Africa and acts foolish; rather, they make the white man smarter than Africans.

Yul further noted how they use their movies to sell themselves as superheroes while Africans use theirs to seek themselves down.

“I wish our producers would stop making films where Nigerians travel abroad dey mumu.
We sell ourselves short with such storylines.
Oyibo people will never make a movie where a white man is foolish on African soil.
Instead, they’ll make the white man smarter than all the Africans in the movie.
It’s intentional.
They use movies to sell themselves as superheroes while we use ours to run ourselves down”.

He added, “Any name you give your dog, that’s what everybody will call it”.

Days back, Veteran actor Kanayo Kanayo called out Nollywood filmmakers who run to the steaming giant platform YouTube, for ruining the foundation of the movie industry by creating low-quality content.

The veteran also spoke against those who were not learned enough to make films but went ahead and created the money-making video channel and then abandoned their colleagues. Admonishing them to work with each other, he warned against the durability of the YouTube platform.

Concurring with him, filmmaker Chinney Love noted how when she joined YouTube, there was so much love, and everyone was concerned about individual growth. But now, the space has become so toxic, hence why she took a break from the platform to focus and heal.

She noted how actors don’t want to act for producers anymore as everyone is now operating like a one-person army, forgetting that the movie industry is highly spiritual and they all need each other.
