“He didn’t commit capital offense” – NCoS debunks claims of Bobrisky being moved to Kirikiri prison

The Nigeria Correctional Service NCoS has debunked claims that crossdresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky was moved from the Ikoyi Correctional Center to Kirikiri Prison.

Kemi Filani reported a day back that report made rounds that Bobrisky was quietly moved to Kirikiri prison after his sentencing last week.

The source further explained that the transfer was part of the standard procedure due to Kirikiri’s larger capacity compared to Ikoyi and for security purposes.

Refuting the claims, an NCoS official told PUNCH Metro on Thursday that he was still held in the Ikoyi prison. The official who pleaded anonymity as he wasn’t permitted to speak on the matter, said the convict did not commit a capital offense to warrant his transfer to a maximum prison where inmates serving life and death sentences were mostly kept.

“Bobrisky has not been moved, he is still here in Ikoyi. He was not sentenced to death and didn’t get a life sentence either. Those people sentenced to death and given life sentences are mostly kept in the maximum prison. That is mostly based on capital punishment. As for Bobrisky, he didn’t commit a capital offense, so why would they take him to Kirikiri,” the source said.

Another official who also pleaded anonymity said that although there were plans to move some inmates across the custodial centers in the state, it was still being proposed and the move was for decongestion.

“Sometimes, when we discover that the population of inmates is much in a facility, we decide to move them just to decongest. We are only considering that at the moment and not that anyone has been moved. If the prison authorities want to move, they have the right. We also do so if the person has a communicable disease or because the inmate requested it for proximity to the family or an appeal on humanitarian grounds.

“The leadership might also say, ‘Let’s spread those who have less than one year sentence’, which may apply to Bobrisky, just to create space for those awaiting trial. But such people rarely go to the maximum prison,” the source disclosed.

Recall that early this month, Bobrisky was arrested by EFCC for abuse of Naira. He was arraigned before a Lagos court where he pleaded guilty and pleaded with the judge to give him another chance with a promise to use his social media platforms to educate his followers against Naira abuse.

Unfortunately, the judge didn’t excuse his behavior, and was sentenced to 6 months in jail at Ikoyi Correctional Center where he was to spend the next 6 months.

The NCoS had said that the crossdresser would be incarcerated in the male section of its custodian facility, noting how the crossdresser identified himself as a male when being questioned in court.

Despite concerns regarding his safety due to his gender preference, Correctional officers assured the public that Bobrisky would be adequately protected from potential harm.

In a follow-up to it, the NCos revealed that after a thorough examination, it was revealed that there was no evidence of gender or genital organ realignment as Bobrisky’s male biological characteristics of unchanged.
