Harry Kane left Jamie Carragher looking a bit sheepish in the CBS Sports studio after ‘exposing’ him on Tuesday night.
Fresh from bagging twice in the Champions League for Bayern Munich to help them come back against Lazio to reach the quarter-finals, Kane spoke to CBS Sports after the match.
Host Kate Abdo had one pressing question regarding whether Carragher was indeed as close to Kane as he made out he was.
Speaking on CBS Sports on Tuesday night, Abdo said: “Before we do anything, I think we should clear up because Jamie said earlier in the pre-game that he called you and spoke to you this week.
“Is that true or false?”
Kane, almost apologetically, replied: “Erm, that is false.”
It sparked wild laughter from Micah Richards and Thierry Henry before Carragher pleaded: “H, don’t do this to me!
“I am telling everyone in America that we are friends, that we’ve got a great relationship.
“I can’t believe you have just done that to me!”
Kane continued: “We are friends but I am not going to lie on national TV!”
When asked if he had Carragher’s number, the striker said: “We exchange messages on Twitter, you know. Twitter friends.”
Carragher chimed in: “See Kate, we are Twitter friends!”
Kane said on X after the match: “Sorry @Carra23 the truth will always come out [crying laughter emojis].”
Bayern’s win over Lazio might be the reboot they need after a disappointing few weeks for Thomas Tuchel.
With the Bundesliga almost slipping away, the Champions League might be their best chance at winning a trophy.
Bayer Leverkusen went ten points clear at the weekend following Munich’s 2-2 draw against Freiburg.
But Kane scoring twice on Tuesday to take his tally this season to 33 has underlined how Bayern can never be sniffed out – especially in Europe.
Winning the Champions League would also be a massive achievement for Kane, who is desperate to add trophies to his already impressive career.
The 30-year-old added to CBS Sports: “It was an important night tonight. It can really change the momentum of the season.”
