Grapefruit-sized, Roman-era dodecahedron discovered in farmer’s garden in England

In a farmer’s field in England’s East Midlands, a local volunteer organization discovered a grapefruit-sized, Roman-era dodecahedron. The first of its kind discovered in northwestern Europe outside of areas inhabited by Gauls or Celts between the 1st and 3rd centuries A.D.

I read an article that says It is a device for making rope, but I’ve never seen a demonstration on how it works.

The holes on opposing sides are different sizes. The device is used for measuring distance, apparently

No, they are often found on Roman occupation sites, they are regarded as mysterious because very few academics have woven a glove.
You can buy contemporary versions of these in your local craft shop.

Tumbling Laundry ball to keep your togas fluffy in the wash.
That’s why they’re only found in cold places where woolly togas & cloaks would be appreciated.

Calculator for figuring out and sorting coins/gold weight based on its size. With unmarked coins from everywhere, you need to make change. Set your ddh on the table, and depending which hole your coin falls through, you know its value. I through X

100 where given to the Early days of the Roman Republic by an Alien race in exchange for 100 Vestal Virgins (fit ones) , they where used to predict whether they would successfully conquer a country or win a decisive battle.
The famous Julius Caesar quote The die has been cast at the crossing of the Rubicon was the most well known case of one of the Decohedran Dice being thrown (cast).
The battles at Cannae and the one in German forests where disasters as each legate thought the other had brought a dice .

I think it was used for a game. Some were found with money? Notice the different size holes and the posts to keep it off the table a bit. Place a bet, put some game pieces inside, give it a roll and see which pieces come out.

They predicted COVID-19, just wow!!!

Marsha, Marsha,Marsha Blackburns rubber chicken.

It’s not for ropes. It’s for gloves. The holes are measurements for finger diameter. The nobs are where you start the yarn for the gloves fingers.

As is well known, the Foundation Stone was a double pentagon-dodecahedron, conceived as a “symbol of the human soul”. “In its double twelvefoldness,” so said Rudolf Steiner, “for us it is a symbol of the Microcosm, of the human soul aspiring to the Macrocosm.” . And later he drew attention twice more to the fact that this Stone “was formed according to the world images of the human soul”, that it was “formed as a stone of man, intent-seeking in the Spirit, intent-feeling in the World-soul, and awakening in the World Self”.
