Benin City – Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls as the world marks International Women’s Day 2025.
With this year’s theme, “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,†GPI is calling for sustained efforts to break barriers and create a more inclusive society.
For over 30 years, GPI has been at the forefront of empowering girls through education, advocacy, and support. As part of its renewed commitment, the organization has outlined key areas of focus:
• Championing Girls’ Education – Ensuring that every girl has access to quality education and eliminating obstacles that hinder learning.
• Fighting Gender-Based Violence – Calling for an end to violence against women and girls while providing support for survivors.
• Promoting Women’s Leadership – Advocating for equal participation of women in decision-making at all levels.
• Securing Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights – Ensuring access to comprehensive services that enable women to make informed choices.
• Advancing Economic Empowerment – Supporting initiatives that create economic opportunities for women.
GPI has urged the community, policymakers, and global leaders to join hands in making these goals a reality. “We must all work together to turn ‘Rights. Equality. Empowerment’ from a slogan into real change for all women and girls,†the organization stated.
“The fight for women’s rights, equality, and empowerment must continue until every woman and girl can thrive without barriersâ€, the statement added.
