Giroud Set For Move To MLS’ Los Angeles From Milan

Los Angeles FC  (LAFC) are reportedly close to sealing an agreement with AC Milan striker, Olivier Giroud, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Giroud’s contract with Milan is set to run out this summer, and the plan is for him to sign with LAFC. Following Euro 2024, which takes place from June 14 to July 14, the 37-year-old would join LAFC when the MLS summer transfer window open on July 18.

According to The Athletic, the guaranteed part of the agreement is valid through the 2025 MLS season. Since LAFC owns Giroud’s MLS discovery rights, they can sign him before any other MLS team.

Giroud who is still playing for France leads the chart as Les Bleus’ all-time top goalscorer with 56 goals in 130 matches. He featured in the 2018 FIFA World Cup winners’ friendly match against Germany in the just concluded March international break.

With 26 Serie A appearances in the 2023/24 season, the former Arsenal and Chelsea forward has scored 12 goals and provided eight assists. The seasoned striker has been productive once more for Milan this season.

Giroud will be aiming to finish the season on a high note with Milan. The Rossoneri are currently second in the Serie A standings, 14 points adrift of their city rivals, Inter Milan. They are also in the mix to win the UEFA Europa League as they are set to battle AS Roma in the quarter finals in an all Italian clash.

The 2021 Champions League winner has been a key component of Milan’s success since moving from Chelsea in the summer of 2021. Milan won Serie A in Giroud’s debut season. His stay in Italy has produced 46 goals and 20 assists.

Giroud would lead LAFC’s attack next season alongside Uruguay star, Cristian Olivera and Denis Bouanga – the most recent MLS Golden Boot winner. With five games played so far this season, LAFC have tallied seven points.
