Can we have Independent of Police in Nigeria?

I read with keen interest a news item from united kingdom on this page where the prime minister said he would hold the police commissioner responsible for allowing Gaza war protest in United kingdom. Few days ago, the prime minister made a statement that the protest would not be allowed but the police commissioner insisted they would allow the protest because it does not violate the law of UK to stage protest as long as its a peaceful one and that the duty of the police is to protect the protesters. Against the PM order, the police commissioner has given a go-ahead for the protest. I was just imaginning, can we have such in Nigeria? I think this country will be a better place if the police is independent from the ruling party.
