Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is facing the prospect of being frozen out by Besiktas after he was left out of the club’s Europa League squad. The 31-year-old spent six years at Anfield before leaving the club last season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who helped Liverpool win the Champions League and Premier League during his 146 appearances with the club, is facing an uncertain future in the Super Lig. The England international was left out of Besiktas’ pre-season camp in Slovenia back in July and, according to the Mirror, has been unable to seal a return to the Premier League due to wage demands.

Earlier this month, Besiktas’ general secretary Kaan Sakul said Oxlade-Chamberlain made it clear that Oxlade-Chamberlain would not be included in the club’s Europa League squad: “He was the first name to go,” said Sakul.

However, the Mirror adds that with time running out for Oxlade-Chamberlain to seal an exit ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline in Turkey, the 31-year-old is now prepared to stay and fight for his place in Istanbul after entering the final two years of his contract this summer.

If Oxlade-Chamberlain does wish to move to the Premier League before the January transfer window, he would have to terminate his contract with Besiktas and register with a Premier League team before September 13th.

The midfielder scored four goals in 30 appearances across all competitions last season as Besiktas won the Turkish Super Cup.
