The Spanish football federation President, Luis Rubiales will announce his resignation on Friday.
This is following his forced kissing of Spanish striker, Jenni Hermoso, during the medal presentation of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
DAILY POST reports that the 46-year-old football administrator prompted a huge backlash when he grabbed 33-year-old Hermoso by the head and kissed her on the lips. The striker came out publicly to say that she ‘did not like it’.
Amid several calls for Rubiales to be removed from his position, FIFA on Thursday also released a statement confirming that they had opened disciplinary proceedings against the football chief.
Widespread reports in the Spanish media on Thursday night claim he has now decided to resign and has called an emergency general assembly on Friday.
Spanish radio station, Cope is reporting that Rubiales will resign during the meeting.
The football chief told his ‘close circle’ of the decision on Thursday evening.
