The device, known as the Itemiser 5X, is an advanced explosive trace detection system aimed at improving safety at key checkpoints and transportation hubs across the country.

According to a statement released on Friday, the Itemiser 5X is a highly accurate and cost-effective solution for detecting trace amounts of explosives and narcotics.

The device employs sophisticated detection libraries and software algorithms to swiftly identify potential threats. It is ideal for use at high-traffic locations such as airports, train stations, and other commercial facilities, helping to prevent security breaches and enhance public safety.

The statement emphasised the crucial role Nigeria’s infrastructure plays in the nation’s economic stability and public safety.

From airports to seaports, rail terminals, and power facilities, these structures are vital to the country’s economy but are also vulnerable to terrorism, theft, vandalism, and smuggling.

“In light of increasing criminal activities and rising geopolitical tensions, there is an urgent need for effective security measures that can safeguard these key assets,” the statement noted.
