Roma manager, Jose Mourinho threw his runners-up medal into the crowd after they lost 4-1 to Sevilla in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.
This was the first time Mourinho was losing a European final, winning all the previous five his teams have featured in.
The Serie A side took the lead through Paulo Dybala in the first half.
Ivan Rakitic hit the post, before Gianluca Mancini’s own goal levelled the game. There were no goals in extra time and the winner had to be decided via penalties.
Mancini and Ibanez missed for Roma, with Sevilla converting all their kicks, to lift the Europa League trophy for the seventh time.
Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men have now automatically qualified for next season’s Champions League
Too bad Mourinho didn’t win. It would have been a compensation for him losing out on the top 4. Just wasn’t lucky, you don’t bank on a 1 goal lead, it is very risky.
