Tottenham Hotspur boss, Antonio Conte, has been given a leave of absence by the club as he is set to undergo emergency surgery today to remove his gallbladder.
Tottenham confirmed this in a brief statement via its website.
Conte fell ill earlier this week and complained of severe abdominal pain.
The former Chelsea manager has been diagnosed with cholecystitis – a condition that causes swelling and redness of the gallbladder.
“Antonio Conte recently became unwell with severe abdominal pain,” Tottenham’s statement read.
“Following a diagnosis of cholecystitis, he will be undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder today and will return following a period of recuperation. Everyone at the Club wishes him well.”
